This film is about three street children, Sugeng, Heru, and Kancil (played by themselves), in their daily lives in Yogyakarta. Even though they live in poverty, coming from broken homes, they want to get out of poverty and hope to get an education. They beg, sell cannabis, and do other street jobs. They are assisted by Asih (Christine Hakim), a shop assistant who lets them stay where they work. Every night the three children always fight over Asih's leaf pillow. But their hopes were dashed when their destiny ended tragically. Their life could be better. Their life ended tragically. 

Film ini menceritakan tentang tiga orang anak jalanan, yaitu Sugeng, Heru, dan Kancil (diperankan oleh mereka sendiri), dalam kehidupan sehari-hari di Yogyakarta. Meskipun mereka hidup dalam kemiskinan, berasal dari rumah tangga yang pecah, mereka ingin lepas dari kemiskinan dan berharap memperoleh pendidikan. Mereka mengemis, menjual ganja, dan melakukan pekerjaan-pekerjaan jalanan lainnya. Mereka dibantu oleh Asih (Christine Hakim), seorang pelayan toko yang membiarkan mereka tinggal di tempatnya bekerja. Setiap malam ketiga anak itu selalu berkelahi untuk memperebutkan bantal daun kepunyaan Asih. tetapi harapan mereka pupus, ketika takdir mereka berakhir tragis. Kehidupan mereka tidak berjalan mulus. Hidup mereka berakhir secara tragis.
